Heavy Metal Removal Technology

Heavy metal removal technology uses the "catalytic adsorption method" to thoroughly remove heavy metal pollutants from wastewater; it is suitable for both high- and low-concentration heavy metal wastewater, as well as wastewater containing single or mixed heavy metals.

Industries such as non-ferrous metallurgy, tungsten and molybdenum processing, rare earths, chemicals, and electroplating generate large amounts of wastewater containing arsenic, mercury, chromium, cadmium, lead, selenium, thallium, copper, zinc, molybdenum, and nickel. These effluents present challenges such as a wide variety of heavy metal ions, varying valence states, and high treatment difficulty; direct discharge would cause environmental pollution and damage. This heavy metal removal technology can effectively address these issues.

For neutral or acidic wastewater with heavy metal concentration ≥10 mg/L, KLY series heavy metal pretreatment agents are dosed for pretreatment reaction, reducing heavy metal content to below 1 mg/L. For neutral wastewater with heavy metal concentration <10 mg/L, KLM series adsorbent materials and KLH series activation materials can be directly adopted for catalytic adsorption of heavy metal ions. The treated effluent can meet national, industrial and local discharge standards.

Heavy Metal Removal Technology Principle

Under the catalytic activation of activator, pollutants in water are removed through multiple mechanisms including activated adsorption, catalytic precipitation, physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Once saturated by adsorption, the outer layer of adsorbent material gradually peels off and is discharged, and the active groups on the inner surface start to adsorb heavy metals. With continuous activation, the adsorbent realizes layer-by-layer adsorption and peeling, achieving continuous treatment of heavy metal wastewater.

FAQ

Q1: Which heavy metals can this technology treat?

A1: It can remove arsenic, mercury, chromium, cadmium, lead, selenium, thallium, copper, zinc, molybdenum, nickel and more. It is suitable for wastewater containing single heavy metal or mixed multiple heavy metals.

Q2: Is it applicable to both high and low influent heavy metal concentrations? How to select the process route?

A2: Two process routes are available:

Influent heavy metal ≥10 mg/L (neutral/acidic wastewater): adopt KLY series pretreatment agents.

Q3: Does the adsorbent require regeneration? How much waste residue is generated during operation?

A3: The adsorbent does not need regeneration. Continuous adsorption is realized via gradual peeling and renewal of material surface. It produces less waste residue compared with traditional resin and activated carbon processes.

Influent heavy metal <10 mg/L (neutral wastewater): directly apply KLM adsorbents and KLH activation materials. Both high and low concentration conditions can be covered.

Q4: Which industries are mainly applicable?

A4: Widely applied for heavy metal wastewater treatment in non-ferrous metallurgy, tungsten & molybdenum processing, rare earth, chemical industry, electroplating and other sectors.

Q5: Will influent pH fluctuation greatly affect treatment performance? How about operational flexibility?

A5: The process features great operational flexibility with adjustable parameters. Operating conditions can be optimized for different water quality to withstand fluctuations within a certain range.
